San Francisco City Football Club has made community service one of the tenets of their organization. This week they announced a full calendar of community events for the spring with a focus on service, civic engagement and social change.
Each month (March through June) SF City members, players, coaches, and staff will participate a different event and encourage the public at-large to join them. The club also announced that each event will be followed by a social gathering.
“Giving back is what sets SF City FC apart. We are using soccer as a platform to bring people together and amplify our voices as a community. By joining SF City, you become a part of something bigger than yourself and the importance of giving back to San Francisco really starts to shine through” said Steven Kenyon, Vice President of Community Development for the Club.
Their first event took place last Friday at the opening of the Street Soccer USA Park. SF City FC’s front office and board of directors squared off in the SF Derby for Social Good against the San Francisco Deltas operations team. We previously wrote about this event.
SF City has been a partner of Street Soccer USA since 2014, adding their support to the organizations mission of using soccer as a development tool to achieve outcomes in education and employment for the least served across the United States.
Future events will include the Best Buddies Friendship Walk (April), Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco’s Gilman Playground Clean-up (May), and San Francisco Spikes’ National AIDS Memorial Grove Restoration (June).
